ABOUT

Karen Messing, The Second Body: Women at Work, from Shame to Solidarity, Les Éditions Écosociété 2021

Let me be clear, Karen Messing is a self-proclaimed feminist. She has had a brilliant career in academia and is internationally recognized for her expertise as a geneticist and ergonomist. She is also the co-founder of CINBIOSE, an interdisciplinary research group on well-being, health, society and the environment. It is important to mention this because by creating this group, she has succeeded in changing the lives of many working women in many fields of economic activity.

If cashiers can sit on a chair or women in non-traditional jobs have better working conditions, it is partly thanks to her science and her ability to work with key actors who have the power to transform the lives of working women, including unions.

This is not an academic book. It is the remarkable and moving story of a feminist scientist. Taking the time to read it is a tribute to this exceptional woman who sought to find answers to pertinent questions.

For decades, she has sought to transform the workplace so that it truly embraces who we are as women, under the gaze of biological sex and gender identity. Bravo Karen Messing!

Alexandra Martel, Add a zero: how to set your prices and get rich when you are self-employed, Guy Saint-Jean publisher, 2021

If there is one subject that bothers self-employed workers, it is pricing. Am I charging enough? How can I set a pricing that is in line with what I deserve? With brilliance and humor, Alexandra Martel took the bull by the horns to present her point of view and suggest tips for determining your pricing.

Her book reveals a direct woman who knows how to tell the truth. A persuasive writer, aka professional copywriter , she is indeed very convincing in her argument against hourly pricing. She advocates pricing based on value (value pricing ) which she explains to us simply by adding relevant exercises.

As a bonus, it provides ways to notify our customers about this new pricing.

She communicates with knowledge, both through her professional experience and through in-depth research on the subject, which she skillfully documents. So, don't be afraid anymore, Alexandra helps you put an end to the taboo and encourages you to take action.

Sylvie Huard, Family Business – Chatting about business with the family without breaking the dishes, Les Éditions JFD inc., 2021

There is a lot of talk about takeovers. In the demographic context of Quebec, there is reason to worry about the survival of our businesses. Among this group, there are of course family businesses whose generational transfer issues are very important and complex. Recently, Louis Garneau revealed in his own book the challenges he faced in wanting one of his sons to take over this great brand.

Sylvie Huard is a seasoned businesswoman, coach and consultant who has developed a specialty in family business transfers. In this guide, which is specifically aimed at families facing this important stage of life, she shares all her secrets. Don't expect a technical book. Sylvie Huard talks instead about emotions; she explains how to recognize and manage them in all stages of the takeover process.

Written in an effective style, the text is accompanied by numerous illustrations. Business families will be able to draw inspiration from it to follow the path to sustainability in a harmonious way. Advice and tools also provide support and are enriched by content accessible on the Harmonie intervention website, which specializes in this type of problem.
