Audrey Thoreau is a French woman in love with Quebec. A nurse with a 15-year career, who became a professor, speaker and author. After having gone around her profession, it is the transmission of her knowledge that drives her today. A redefinition of her work that involved going beyond her beliefs.
In 2015, Audrey decided to make the leap into teaching. She offered training from home and built a network through word of mouth. She was also a consultant for various training organizations where she gave conferences. However, even if she was confident about her content, it was a different story when it came time to showcase her expertise. “I had a block,” she confirms. “Nursing is seen as a vocation, so I was uncomfortable talking about prices.”
During a conversation over brunch during her vacation in Montreal the following year, she discovered Danièle Henkel. “And that’s when the doors opened,” she confides. “The video Code DH – Money came at a key moment. I remember her words: “I love money!” I was overwhelmed, deeply affected. In Europe, you know, money is still taboo. This video unblocked me! I learned to trust myself and to accept that the quality of my interventions had a fair price.”
Over time, demand grew. In 2017, she launched Toortue, an accredited distance learning centre to support a wider audience, that of candidates across the country wishing to apply to the highly selective Nursing Training Institutes (IFSI), which are mandatory to practice the profession. The market in which she developed her business proposition was new. There was virtually no competitive reference. The one who had nevertheless had the courage to take the big career leap had to unequivocally confront the uncomfortable question of price, which eminently came up again. "This famous video allowed me to relax and find the right price."
Embody your project: embody your company
Audrey started watching all of Danièle Henkel's videos. The DH capsule discovers: the art of pitching at Parcours Innovation PME Mtl in which she accompanies a candidate before a presentation, took her further in her project. Here is the message she took away from it and which left a lasting impression on her: "It's your story, you know it better than anyone. If you are convinced of the relevance of your project, you will convince others". These words gave me the motivation I needed. Audrey then focused on how Danièle Henkel produced the material: "The tone, the formatting, the rhythm". She helped her find the right words to convince during her webinars. As a coach on her interactive educational platform, she felt stronger and better equipped.
Audrey continues to move forward, with an eye on entrepreneurship in Quebec. "You never know?" she says. As a woman, mother and entrepreneur, she says she lacks true role models and appreciates "the gentle but powerful voice of this citizen of the world who has found the right balance in the business world where it is still difficult to assert one's authenticity." On the path to confidence, Audrey has just published two books of her own to prepare for the IFSI entrance exam. As you can see, inspiration can give you wings!
A film that inspires Audrey: Self-Made: inspired by the life of Madam CJ Walker, a mini-series broadcast on Netflix that is a real boost for entrepreneurship! A black woman, born to slave parents on plantations, becomes a laundress. Then the entrepreneurship bug bites her. This will allow her to pass the tests, to build, to create, to be the founder of a hair care empire. She becomes the first self-made millionaire in the United States.
